District Philosophy

Willard High School is an A+ certified secondary school. In addition to a rigorous core curriculum of math, science, language arts, social studies, and reading, we offer a wide range of elective and exploratory classes from which students can choose. We compete in a wide variety of interscholastic sports, activities, and clubs.

Our district has a strong reputation for academic excellence, as evidenced by receiving  waivers for consecutive years from Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) reviews from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). We consistently beat the state average in every category of the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), and our district has been honored for scoring in the top ten on the 2000 MAP. Forty percent of the district faculty members hold Master’s Degrees or higher. We have one of the highest starting salaries of any school in Southwest Missouri, and we are always interested in dedicated teachers with a strong commitment to student achievement and development.

The Board of Education of Willard R-2 School District believes that education is an investment and tremendously important to our country and our community.

In order to perpetuate and improve our democratic way of life, the school shall strive to develop in students the knowledge, skills, habits, understandings, attitudes, and character traits which are essential for sound choice of and effective participation in a vocation, for noble and satisfying human relations, and for responsible, contributing citizenship.

Important among the outcomes to be achieved for each student are strong moral character and deep appreciation of a spiritual value, love of home and country, respect of duly constituted authority, general concern and thoughtful consideration for the welfare and rights of others regardless of race or creed, willingness to act in the interest of the general welfare, a disciplined approach to the varied responsibilities of life, and a desire ever to improve in those competencies essential to effective personal and social living.

The Board of Education believes these outcomes can be achieved only with the full cooperation and support of all agencies in the community which share responsibility for the welfare and development of our youth. It is, therefore, essential that a close relationship should exist with these agencies, especially the home.
