Activities
- Introduce unit by
completeing a class KWL chart about the life cycle of plants.
- Show the following example
PowerPoint
presentation.
- Students
will research plant life cycles and what plants need in order to grow
using the internet by clicking on the following link: www.ikeepbookmarks.com
- Students
will record their research findings in a flip book. Each tab of
the flip book will be labled with a page for each life cycle stage, a
page for what plants need to survive, and a page for other interesting
facts.
- Library
time will be utilized to do further research. Students will add
information to their flip books.
- Students
will work in cooperative groups during Mix-Pair-Share Activity (Kagan
Cooperative Learning Structure). While teacher plays music,
students mix around the room. When the music stops students pair
up with someone who is near them. Students share with their
partner at least two interesting facts they have learned about plants
during their research. Sharing time is over when the music begins
again. Repeat until students have had a chance to share several
times with different partners.
- Students will complete a
Power Point Planning Sheet and have the teacher help them edit prior to
beginning the Power Point presentation.
- In groups of 2, students
will create a Power Point Presentation on the life cycle of a plant.
- If students have extra
time, they can complete the Plant
Life Cycle online activity (click on "Main Session". This
link operates best when opened in Internet Explorer) and/or create
a drawing of a plant using Microsoft Paint.
